While the picture above is not the cutest picture of me, it is most definitely an accurate one of me when I am hungry. I used to think that as soon as my eyes opened in the morning I was STARVING. I also have noticed that after long naps I wake up ravenous and almost always crave sugar. Up until recently, I would give in to these cravings and head straight to the refrigerator when I would wake up.
A while ago I read The Body Book by Cameron Diaz. I thought it would be cheesy, but my curiosity got the best of me and I had to buy it. When I started reading it, I couldn’t stop. So many tips from this book have stuck with me and helped me to maintain a healthy body that I love. What I used to recognize as insatiable hunger I now recognize as extreme thirst. The book encourages you to chug an enormous amount of water from the moment you wake up. I tried this method for the first time a couple years ago when I was nannying in Connecticut.
I would wake up at 7 o’clock in the morning and instead of my usual black tea or black coffee I would chug two 16 ounce water bottles. I was shocked at how difficult this was to initially do. What I noticed immediately was that my energy was unbelievable. I felt as though I had my morning caffeine without the jittery feeling and without the crash. I also noticed I was still interested in eating my breakfast, but I was no longer ravenous. I was IN CONTROL. The downside was I definitely had to pee…A LOT!
However, despite having to go like a race horse, the benefits were HUGE. I did this water method for the entire summer. My skin was glowing, my weight was down and my energy was soaring! What is not to love about that? When I start feeling like a ravenous wolf, I no longer reach for the fork, instead I chug a full glass of water sometimes two depending on my hunger level. I feel more balanced and I am less likely to over eat. The next you feel hungry like the wolf, try some water and see what happens! 🙂
